huion h610 vs h610 pro

Buying a new graphics tablet can seem like a daunting task, especially since you only seem to come across one name – Wacom. Sure, their products are reliable and top quality, but are there any Wacom alternatives that work just as well?

Enter, Huion. This is another Chinese brand is offering very similar products, often for a lower price. Let's see which one proves worthy of your hard-earned money in this Wacom v/s Huion comparison.

Why are we comparing them?

Both brands specialize in graphic tablets and have similar products with similar designs. Here's what they offer:

For those who don't know:

  • Pen tablets, graphics tablets, and drawing tablets all refer to the same category.
  • Pen displays are just pen tablets with a screen.
  • Pen computers are standalone pen displays (that do not need to be connected to a computer).

All of these products come with a digital pen, and Wacom wins in that category. Our second best pick in terms of pens would probably be XP-PEN. So in that case, XP-Pen v/s Huion might be a fair competition.

Huion H610 Pro

HUION H610 Pro V2 Graphic Drawing Tablet Chromebook and Android...

The Huion H610 Pro comes with a rechargeable pen (PEN80), USB Cable, pen charger, pen holder, and replacement nibs in the box. This device:

  • Is light, slim, and portable
  • Is very affordable
  • Has a matte finish and is overall comfortable to use
  • Has an indicator light at the top left that lights up whenever your pen touches the tab. This can be useful since you will know if you're pressing too lightly. But it can also be annoying over a long period since the light keeps blinking.
  • Has 8 physical express keys that are all customizable
  • Has 16 soft keys at the top, on the working area. These keys are pretty small and you can't use them without looking, so we're not sure about how useful they are.

The PEN80 stylus that comes with it has a matte body that is quite comfortable. It's not the brand's best though. Since it is battery-powered, you will need to charge it. The battery life is pretty long, so it's not much of an issue.

As an alternate option, you can also check out the Huion Inspiroy H640P which is very similar. So it is also quite cheap and has great features.

Wacom Intuos

Wacom Intuos Graphics Drawing Tablet for Mac, PC, Chromebook & Android...

The Wacom Intuos has been one of the most popular drawing tabs since it was released. It comes with a Wacom Pen 4K, replacement nibs for the pen, and a USB cable in the box. It is:

  • Is super light, slim and portable
  • Comes in two sizes – small and medium
  • Is battery-powered with a long battery life of about 15 hours
  • Is Bluetooth enabled (so, wireless). The small size comes in both wired and wireless options.
  • Is affordable
  • Has 4 keys at the top, so both right-handed and left-handed artists can sue the tab with ease
  • Uses an amazing feature called anti-ghosting that allows you to use multiple keys at the same time.

The Pen 4K is a comfortable stylus to use that holds the replacement nibs at the back. So you don't have to worry about carrying extras. A lot of users enjoy the stylus but it's nothing too special. Wacom has a variety of great styli that are all compatible with the Intuos – so you can check those out too.

Wacom Intuos Graphics Drawing Tablet for Mac, PC, Chromebook & Android...

Verdict: Between these two, the Huion tab is cheaper, larger, more pressure-sensitive, and has more express keys. Although the Wacom Intuos has gained more popularity mostly because of the brand name, the H610 Pro looks much better. Also, Android is one of the Huion H610 Pro compatible software, which is not common for graphic tabs.

Wacom has also launched an updated version, the Intuos Pro, at a much higher price range (currently more than twice the price of Intuos). This is a premium product that has a larger working area and better pressure sensitivity. Unfortunately, it received mixed reviews from users. You can get a decent pen display for a lower price. If you consider Huion H610 Pro v/s Wacom Intuos Pro, the latter seems like a more upgraded device but the difference in price between the two is not justified by the difference in features.

Huion Kamvas 20

HUION KAMVAS 20 Drawing Pen Display Graphics Monitor Tilt Function...

The Huion Kamvas 20 is a large pen display with an IPS LCD screen of 19.5 in (495.3 mm). It comes with a digital pen (PW507), pen holder and replacement nibs, charge for the pen, power adapter, USB cable, and a stand. This device:

  • Looks like a large monitor with very slim bezels. The display itself is high resolution and is great for large, detailed illustrations.
  • Is pretty heavy and not something to carry around
  • Comes with an adjustable stand, unlike many others of the same kind
  • Has a glossy screen, but comes with an anti-glare screen protector
  • Does have some parallax issue but that is common with pen displays. However, it's not too much to distract you while drawing.
  • Is reasonably priced given the size
  • Has no express key. So the only shortcuts you can use are on your computer keyboard.

The battery-free pen (PW507) that comes with this display has tilt support. It is highly sensitive, so the drawing experience is quite flawless. Although you won't get used to it right away, it does not have an eraser but two buttons on the side to switch to and from eraser mode.

Wacom Cintiq

Wacom DTK1660K0A Cintiq 16 Drawing Tablet with Screen

Wacom Cintiq is one of the most popular and was considered one of the best quality pen displays in the market (until better versions showed up). They come in two sizes – Cintiq 16 and Cintiq 22. They vary in screen size, dimensions, weight, and price. Other than that, a Cintiq tab:

  • Has a large, high-resolution display
  • Has a wide viewing angle, so you don't get much glare from the screen (in any way you position it)
  • Has two legs at the bag that pop out to work as a stand. You also get a separate adjustable stand you can screw on to the back of the tab.
  • Has little parallax when drawing, but it is still noticeable
  • Does not have any express keys. But you can separately buy the ExpressKey remote, which has 17 programmable keys and a touch ring.
  • Also comes with a small loop on one side to hold the stylus. You can pull it out and you will find the replacement nibs tucked inside.

The Cintiq tabs come with Wacom Pro Pen 2 which is one of the best this brand has produced. The dimensions and grip on the pen are good with a very balanced weight. It has two buttons on the side that are customizable. The stylus feels smooth and easy to work with and even with slow strokes, there is almost no jitter. It has tilt support and feels natural.

Wacom DTK1660K0A Cintiq 16 Drawing Tablet with Screen

Wacom also offers an upgraded range with more size options – the Cintiq Pro. In this range, you get four sizes – 13, 16, 24, and 32. These are premium products with high-resolution displays and high price tags. With the Pro range, you also get an ExpressKey remote in the box (that we talked about earlier).

Verdict: As far as the drawing tablet comparison is concerned, it is a close call. However, Wacom does win by a small margin. The Cintiq 16 is quite a solid performer, albeit a little expensive, minus the lack of express keys. The larger one, on the other hand, is overpriced despite having almost the same features. If you have a budget constraint, you can consider the Kamvas GT-191 – you will not regret it.

Huion Kamvas Studio 22

Huion Kamvas Studio 22

The Huion Kamvas Studio 22 is a big, heavy graphic tab that can run without a computer. It has a great 21.5 in IPS LCD display that looks big and bright. Although the display resolution is HD, it's not all that great for the size of the screen. However, the screen is laminated and that does reduce the parallax quite a bit.

It comes with Intel Core i5 8th gen processor. You get to choose between 8 or 16 GB of RAM and internal storage of 120 or 240 GB. That is enormous for a tablet. Since it is a computer itself, you can use the device for playing games, watching movies, and many other activities. It also has Bluetooth and dual speakers.

You also get 20 programmable express keys and two touch bars on each side. Now, this sounds great, but you might have a hard time remembering so many shortcuts and end up not using most of them. The battery-free PW500 pen that comes in the box is quite an upgrade on Huion's previous styli. It has two buttons on the side as well as tilt support.

Huion Kamvas Studio 22

Wacom Mobile Studio Pro

Wacom Mobile Studio Pro 16' Windows 10, Intel Core i7, 512GB SSD:...

The Wacom Mobile Studio Pro also comes in two sizes like the Cintiq – Mobile Studio Pro 13 and 16. Both have pretty good Wacom features like high-pressure sensitivity, a nice IPS LCD screen with a high resolution, and overall great design. Both have similar features but the larger version comes with a few upgrades, for example, higher resolution, better viewing angles, etc.

Both sizes come with an Intel Core i7 processor and 16 GB RAM. There is also an 8 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera. The tabs have 8 programmable express keys and a touch ring, all aligned on one side. To add to that, there is a fingerprint reader that you might not have expected. There is a dedicated micro SD slot, although you probably don't need to expand the 512 GB internal memory. However, the battery life is not great. Given the specifications of the device, the battery is somewhat small.

The great Wacom Pro Pen 2 comes with this device as well, which is the best. However, the device is quite expensive.

Wacom Mobile Studio Pro 16' Windows 10, Intel Core i7, 512GB SSD:...

Verdict: Between these two, Wacom has the upper hand.

A pen computer may not be the best idea these brands came up with. These are large and bulky devices designed to serve as drawing tablets mostly. The only benefit is that they can run on their own. Connecting a graphic tab with a computer is not much of a hassle. It is convenient in many ways. It is easy to store your work directly on the computer. You can use several different applications and just unplug or disconnect the tab when you are not using it.

For standalone tablets, devices like Samsung Galaxy and iPads have improved their digital pen technology. They can now be used for high-quality art, including the other functions of a regular tab. So if a standalone tab is what you want, these are great options.

Final thoughts

Both Wacom and Huion have plenty of products that come in a variety of price ranges. They differ in features but all have something special to offer. These specific comparisons should give you an idea of what to expect from each brand.

As a brand, Wacom might be the better choice. They have put a lot of effort in their hardware design and constantly keep improving. But is Huion a good brand overall? Yes. They have pretty decent products and they offer you budget choices. If you have already used Wacom, we would definitely support giving Huion a chance.

For a first-time buyer, Wacom is a safe option. But if you're a full-time illustrator, Wacom or Huion are not your only choices. There is Gaomon, there is XP-Pen, which is also great. This industry is booming, so feel free to explore alternatives.

Hi, this is David. I am writer and self-proclaimed photographer. I constantly find it very interesting how far technology has come and love to try out new gadgets. So I take a lot of pictures on my phone and always try out all the new camera features they keep adding to phones these days. I am probably the worst person to take on a hike, because I will stop at every point and capture the view. I am usually on my phone or tab the whole day, which is not the best habit, but it means I know every nook and cranny of all my devices – and that helps me sleep at night. I think I'm becoming more dependent on my devices everyday, which is probably a good thing given the times we're living in, right?
